继伟大发明家格雷姆•贝尔1876年发明电话之后，美国的另一位发明家威廉•格雷，又在1889年发明了世界上第一部投币公用电话，并因此获得专利。其后，格雷便把装有投币电话的小小电话亭，扩展到车站、码头、银行和旅店，逐渐遍布城市的大街小巷。


After the great invention of telephone by Bel in 1876, another American inventer Greg William created the coin public telephone in 1889 and gotten the patent. Later Greg set up the small building to station, port, bank, hotel and graduated in all the country.  



鸟窝式电话亭

    说起格雷的这项发明，还有一段小插曲呢。一年前，格雷的妻子患急病，他飞奔到附近一家工厂，要借用一下那里的电话，没想到竟遭遇无情的拒绝。失望、愤懑之余，他萌发了发明公用电话的想法。经过一年多的反复研究、试验，终于如愿以偿。


For this invention there is an episode. One year ago Greg’s wife was ill so he run to a factory nearby to borrow the telephone but be refused. With disappointed and angry he had the idea to invent the public telephone. After more than one year time in research and experiment he was successful.

垃圾站式电话亭


    100多年过去了，现在的电话亭已经是五花八门，形态各异，构成了多彩城市的一道独特风景线，甚至在某种场合被当成了艺术品。例如在英国，电话亭一律采用木质材料，并被刷成艳丽的红色。巴西的动物保护组织，为了让人们了解当地的物种，在马托格罗索州州府街头，建起了许多动物(如鹦鹉)行态的电话亭。在哥伦比亚麦德林市，电话公司的工作人员背着1台公用无线电话机，走街串巷，为市民服务……

More than a century had pasted and now the telephone booth is omnifarious and the various shape consisted a beautiful & special line in the city. It’s even become the art in some condition. For exam in Britain it’s all made by wood and painted in red; in Brazil the animal protection organization built lots of animal shape telephone booth in the street in order to make people to understand it.

老树根式电话亭

    电话，缩短了地球上人与人之间的距离，给予人们无限的温馨与慰藉。电话亭虽小，却是世界的一个缩影。然而，随着因特网的出现和手机的迅速普及，电话亭，这一城市最基本的公共服务设施，现在开始渐渐淡出人们的视线，在一些国家存在的日子已经屈指可数了。例如，欧盟最近正在修订有关网络和电子通信服务的规定，为的是加快取消公用电话亭的步伐。究其原因，主要是手机大量普及、昂贵的维护费用以及经常遭受人为破坏等因素，使公用电话的使用率逐渐下降，并且已成为传统运营商的沉重负担。他们认为在这种情况下，继续保留公用电话，不啻是一种倒退。

Now today more and more cities are building the high technology telephone booth. Maybe we just could see it in the museum show in the near future.
